I’ve been busy on the California-Mexican border, but the first point is that most protests in Los Angeles have been peaceful. Here’s a snapshot from last Saturday morning, at the scheduled “No Kings” march on L.A. City Hall:
By then I had written an essay on anti-ICE demonstrations on June 8, when things were simmering but reasonable until the cops kettled a fairly boring protest near the Federal Building downtown. By evening, of course, it looked bad, especially on TV. Here’s my piece for New Lines Magazine:
